VAWMAP.PK

The acts of violence against women in the real world are replicated online, including cyber stalking, bullying and other acts that violate women's safety and privacy compromising their economic & social well being. In most cases, women do not know how to protect themselves. Nor have telecommunications companies, internet service providers and software developers adopted adequate measures to protect users' privacy and security. Unfortunately, there are no protections for citizens provided by any legislation in Pakistan.

Building upon the past work of B4A, is collaborating with a range of social actors such as women’s rights organisations working in VAW, service providers (NGOs and government), policymakers including gender or women’s machineries, social media and technology activists, and researchers and academic institutions have worked and deployed a mobile-Internet based Technical Platform for reporting and mapping of violence against women (VAW) incidents in Pakistan.

Aligning with Take Back The Tech campaign, VAWMAP monitors VAW cases, document and maps to seek solutions and add strong voices to advocacy for policy development purposes. VAWMAP also seeks to develop mechanisms, where more and more women join the cyberspace and add to the growing voices to seek solutions to combat violence against women in Pakistan. VAWmap.pk mainly revolves around how technology can help minimize and end Violence Against Women (VAW) that is rampant and increasing in our society.

VAWmap.pk provides a mobile/internet based platform for crowd sourced reporting and mapping of gender based violence in Pakistan, using SMS and Internet working technologies. Deployment of SMS and Internet based platform has been introduced so that women all over the country feel accessible to report VAW stories.
